All three Leonia schools (ACS, LMS & LHS) have earned Bronze certifications from Sustainable Jersey for Schools. In addition to the satisfaction that comes from knowing we are taking active steps to move closer to a Zero Waste Leonia, certified schools also gain priority access to grant programs and are eligible to apply for the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Small Grants program. These grants could help us continue our efforts in reducing waste and making our school district more accessible to everybody in Leonia.
The sustainable practices outlined by Sustainable Jersey cover three areas:
- People – Contribute to a strong civil society that provides opportunity for all;
- Prosperity – Support local economies and wise use of community resources;
- Planet – Practice responsible environmental management and conservation.
We are one of only 108 schools in the state of New Jersey that got certified in 2019. You can see all the schools that have been certified bronze here. Our next step is to aim for silver!
