The Leonia Middle School (LMS) has been conducting an Annual Wellness Fair for the past several years.  Students from LMS attend the fair during the school day and participate in various work stations learning about different way to improve their own wellness and the overall wellness of the community.

The 2018 Wellness Fair was held on March 9, 2018 and included the following community partners and accomplishments:

  • Leonia School District Green Team, the Leonia Environmental Commission
    • Members of these school and community groups organized an environmental booth to educate students regarding recycling in the community, as well as the new paper carton recycling stations that were being rolled out in the cafeteria in the next month.  Students were also educated on the importance of recycling and participated in an active “recycling game” where they were asked to sort various garbage into their appropriate receptacles.
  • Maschio’s Foodservice
    • District food provider donated fruit smoothie samples and healthy eating display materials
  • Leonia Police Department
    • Officer present to discuss bicycle and pedestrian safety and any public safety concerns with students who had questions
  • GymGuyz (locally owned fitness business)
    • Fitness trainer with interactive games and exercises for students
  • Leonia Middle School Home And School Association
    • Parent volunteer support; sales of school spiritwear; food and fitness posters; healthy relationship handouts; mindfulness handouts; demonstration by a (parent) physician of CPR on a CPR dummy and allergy awareness with Epipen training
  • Leonia Middle School Nurse’s Office
    • Provided flyers on health, general well-being, and drug and vaping awareness, as well as heart-health awareness materials and blood pressure testing
  • Kessler OT/PT
    • Information on body and health, occupational and physical therapy professions; proper backpack-wearing tips;  prizes and give-aways
